The Christian’s Ambition
This sermon from Matthew 6:19–24 teaches that the Christian’s ambition must be aimed at the eternal rather than the temporal, because what we live for shapes our priorities, decisions, and relationship with God. Jesus commands His followers to store up treasures in heaven, not on earth, because earthly wealth is temporary, insecure, and ultimately lost, while heavenly treasure is durable, secure, and eternal. When our focus is set on eternal goals, it brings light and wisdom to our daily decisions, helping us avoid much of the pain that comes from living in spiritual darkness. Christ also warns that no one can serve two masters—if money and worldly success become our primary pursuit, our love and faithfulness to God will inevitably suffer. Ultimately, where we invest our lives reveals where our hearts truly are, and by training our ambitions on God’s kingdom and righteousness, we gain lasting reward, wiser living, and a deeper, more stable relationship with God.
