The Christian’s Obsession

Jan 25, 2026    Pastor Joe Dickinson

This sermon teaches from Matthew 6:25–34 that Christians must not become distracted or enslaved by financial worry, because money—whether loved or feared—can easily become a rival master to God. Jesus reminds believers that life is about more than material needs, that God faithfully provides for His creation and will certainly care for His children, and that worry is both ineffective and spiritually dangerous. Financial anxiety distracts Christians from their true mission: seeking first God’s kingdom and righteousness by living like Christ and advancing His work in the world. While Scripture affirms the importance of work, planning, and wise stewardship, it forbids anxious obsession, since worry solves nothing and undermines trust in God. Therefore, believers are called to entrust their financial concerns to God in prayer, focus on faithful obedience today rather than tomorrow’s fears, and make God and His purposes the central pursuit of their lives.
