Components of the Model Prayer

Nov 30, 2025    Pastor Joe Dickinson

This sermon teaches that Christian growth is rooted in a living relationship with God, nurtured through both Scripture (hearing God) and prayer (speaking to God). Jesus’ model prayer in Matthew 6:5–15 provides six components that shape how believers should pray: Worship, by addressing God as Father and honoring His name; Surrender, by submitting personal plans to God’s kingdom and will; Dependence, by asking for daily provision and recognizing God as the source of all needs; Confession, by admitting sin, receiving God’s forgiveness, and extending forgiveness to others; Deliverance, by seeking God’s protection from temptation, the flesh, the world, and the devil; and Praise, by acknowledging God’s sovereign rule, unlimited power, and generosity as the reason believers bring their requests to Him. The sermon concludes by encouraging believers to incorporate this model into daily prayer in small, consistent steps.
